Hello! I hope everyone’s weekend was good. I had the hell beaten out of me by some hurricane waves and a sand bar in the name of one 3 second ride. In addition to that I seem to have acquired a rabbit...
We have animals...English Mastiff, Boxer, Chicken x6, Duck, White’s tree frog, Amazon milk frog, box turtle, and now I guess a rabbit. My wife was helping her sister move and during that move they were trying to re home their floppy eared bunny. I advised caution when trying to re home it as there are a lot of psychos out there. They met a few of those psychos and decided against them.
So my wife brings her home and is continuing to try to find a good home for her. I don’t want a rabbit. We had one before and he was a stinky asshole. H owever, I love animals and I am a realist. If that rabbit spends more than one day in our home with our 1 year old (who obviously already LOVES it)...we’re keeping her. Anyway, meet Mia Wallace:
Now I just have to do for her what I have done for all of the other animals I don’t want in the house...Build an extravagant enclosure for her.

Nice rabbit, or as the French would say, nice lunch.

You get a rabbit by listing a C4 Corvette for dirt cheap on Craigslist. Rabbit will come.

Some farming friends of ours had excess rabbit they had frozen and needed to get rid of, so I may be chef-ing some rabbit in the next few months.

Depends on how old it is. Would probably be as tough as old boots.

We’ve had pet rabbits in the past. Unless you’re completely OCD about keeping up with their litter box (yes, they can be litter trained) they definitely can stink. With that said, they can be a very sweet house pet and are way smarter than I ever thought they could be. The info found at the House Rabbit Society (really, that’s a thing, I’m not kidding!) is invaluable. Now, how well she’ll get along with the Mastiff and the Boxer...that could be tricky. :)
With a one year old in the house, you also have to be careful that they don’t decide that the little brown dots in the rabbit cage aren’t raisins and that they look good to eat. Don’t ask me how I know. :(

Yea she won’t be spending any time with the dogs haha. Our boxer is a really good boy. He is also really smart which is unusual for Boxers at least in my experience with them. He can be trusted unsupervised with the chickens and duck. He and the duck chase after each other (boxer is easily startled) but no contact. The Mastiff can be trusted on a leash with the birds, hah.
Neither of them can be trusted around any kinds of rodents. They go into murder mode when anything like that comes into our yard, hardly anything does anymore. We had a fox problem when we first got the birds. I have not seen a fox since our Mastiff has been adult sized... She is just a truck.
Our coop/duck house is partially heated already. I may just build onto that, not quite sure yet. For now we just have to empty the litter box daily (shes already trained, so that is nice).
